James Charles Winery & Vineyard

The Shenandoah Valley's Premier Wine Destination

Founded in 2015, James Charles Winery is the embodiment of the Bogaty's family story. We make old-world style wines in the heart of Virginia's Shenandoah Valley AVA, which strongly resembles classic winemaking regions in France. Our wines are bold, full-bodied and complex.

James Charles Winery & Vineyard is the northern Shenandoah Valley's premier winery, vineyard and wedding venue - located just outside of Winchester, Virginia, it's easily accessible from Interstate 81, US Route 11, Interstate 66, US Route 522, US Route 15, US Route 17, VA Route 7, Northern Virginia and Washington, DC, yet a world away in the rolling hills of the Valley's apple country.

Founded in 2015 by the Bogaty family (of Veramar Vineyard acclaim), winemaker Justin Bogaty makes Old-World-style wines like Viognier, Riesling, Chardonnay, Fumé Blanc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Port-style white dessert wine and Bordeaux-style blends, as well as wines inspired by New World winemaking, like Syrah and Zinfandel.

James Charles Winery & Vineyard strives to provide big-city chic with a side of Valley charm, all within the beautiful setting of the vineyard grounds, apple orchards and rolling hills as far as the eye can see. Whether your coming to taste our hand-crafted wine or hosting an elegant winery wedding, this winery and event venue is a class above.

What is Meritage?

This history of the use of the word Meritage in labeling wines really is fascinating. The brainchild of a group of American vintners, who wanted a way to identify and promote American wines that used the same grapes as those used in...

    Winery Review: Paradise Springs

When I am in the mood for good wine but not in the mood to drive, Paradise Springs is my answer. Not only is it close to DC (it's actually the closest winery to DC), but the wines are extraordinary! In fact, five of their wines won gold...
