Caret Cellars
Caret Cellars is a family-owned and operated vineyard and winery by R.D. and Junghee Thompson. Located just off Route 17 in Essex County, Virginia, Caret Cellars is an hour northeast of Richmond, 40 miles southeast of Fredericksburg and 70 miles north of the Tidewater area.
R.D. and Junghee purchased the land for the vineyard in 2006, planted their grape vines in 2007, and built their winery in 2014. They are both pleased to offer a new spot where locals and tourists can meet, drink wine and have a relaxing time in a friendly environment.
Raised in a farming community in Walla Walla, Washington, R.D. served in the United States Air Force and worked as a government contractor before entering the wine business. Junghee has been a manager of a fine jewelry vendor at the Marine Corps Exchange for almost 20 years. Since planting the vineyard in 2007, both have been devoted to growing only the healthiest grapes which are key to producing great wine.
