Blue Ridge Wine Region

Stretching along the spine of the mountains from Nelson and Rockbridge down through Roanoke and into Southwest Virginia, the Blue Ridge Wine Region is where Virginia wine country feels wild, elevated, and wonderfully unhurried. Here, vineyards cling to steep hillsides, tasting rooms overlook rolling valleys and river bends, and the Blue Ridge Parkway winds just minutes from many cellar doors. This is cool-climate country, with higher elevations, rocky soils, and dramatic temperature swings that help preserve freshness and aromatics in grapes. You’ll find everything from crisp sparkling wines and bright international varieties to old-world inspired reds, mountain-grown hybrids, and orchard-driven cider and mead.

The experience is as memorable as the wines: quiet country roads instead of crowds, star-filled skies after tastings, and small, family-run producers who are happy to linger over a conversation about vintages, weather, and what they’re planting next. Use this page as your launch point to explore the Blue Ridge’s wineries, vineyards, cideries, and meaderies, discover hidden tasting rooms just off the Parkway, and start planning a trip where the journey is every bit as rewarding as the glass in your hand. Whether you’re a serious collector or a casual sipper, there’s a Blue Ridge bottle waiting for you.

With more than 30 vineyards, wineries, cideries and craft-breweries across the county, each stop tells its own story — of terroir, family-run passion, and Virginia’s emerging status as a respected wine region. Whether you’re planning a dedicated wine-trail day or weaving in a stop as part of a larger road-trip, Fauquier delivers the perfect balance of ease-of-access, scenic beauty, and handcrafted wines worth stopping for.

At Ankida Ridge Vineyards, we invite you to experience a truly unique and memorable wine journey. Perched at 1,800 feet on the slopes of Virginia’s stunning Blue Ridge Mountains, our family-owned vineyard is where the beauty of nature meets the art of winemaking. Our name, "Ankida," meaning “where heaven and earth join,” perfectly captures the serene and magical experience that awaits you here.

Whether you're a seasoned wine enthusiast or simply looking for a relaxing weekend escape, Ankida Ridge offers a perfect blend of natural beauty, exceptional wines, and warm hospitality.

At Ankida Ridge, our vineyard is small but mighty. It covers just 2 acres and is primarily dedicated to producing world-class Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. Our unique microclimate and high-elevation location make it ideal for these Burgundian varieties, resulting in wines that are elegant, balanced, and deeply expressive of our mountain terroir.

We also produce small amounts of Gamay Noir and Cabernet Franc, showcasing our versatility as winemakers and our dedication to crafting wines that reflect the soul of the land. Each of our wines is made with the utmost care, from our organically farmed vineyards to the skilled hands of our winemaker, Nathan Vrooman. Nathan, along with vineyard manager Lucie Morton, brings passion, precision, and a commitment to sustainability that is reflected in every bottle we produce.

When you visit Ankida Ridge, you’ll get a first-hand glimpse of what makes our wines so special. Our tasting room offers the perfect setting to discover our portfolio, with stunning views that enhance the experience. Sip on our Pinot Noir with its delicate red fruit aromas and smooth tannins, or enjoy the crisp minerality of our Chardonnay as you relax on our deck overlooking the vines.

We are proud members of the Monticello Wine Trail, located in the prestigious Monticello AVA, which is home to some of Virginia’s finest wineries. Our wines are a reflection of the rich history and vibrant winemaking culture of this region, and we invite you to explore them with us.

Join us for a weekend wine tasting and enjoy a guided flight through our wines while taking in the tranquil surroundings. Whether you’re visiting as part of the Monticello Wine Trail or simply looking for a peaceful escape from the everyday, Ankida Ridge offers an experience that will stay with you long after the last sip.

We look forward to welcoming you to our mountainside vineyard, where heaven and earth truly join in every glass.
