Hampton Roads Wine Region

Virginia’s Hampton Roads Wine Region blends deep colonial history, coastal charm, and an increasingly dynamic wine scene. Centered around the Virginia Peninsula and the waterways of the James and York Rivers, this region stretches from New Kent and Charles City down toward Norfolk, Virginia Beach, and the coastal communities that border the Chesapeake Bay and Atlantic Ocean. Here, historic estates share the spotlight with urban wineries and waterfront vineyards, giving wine lovers a wide range of tasting experiences within an easy drive of Williamsburg and the Tidewater cities.

Wineries such as Williamsburg Winery, Gauthier Vineyard, Saudé Creek Vineyards, Upper Shirley Vineyards, and New Kent Winery showcase classic Virginia varieties like Cabernet Franc, Chardonnay, Viognier, and Merlot, often framed by Revolutionary War and Civil War-era landscapes. In Norfolk and Virginia Beach, destinations like Mermaid Winery and Pungo Ridge Winery bring the wine experience closer to the urban core and the shore, pairing local flavor with vibrant food, music, and cultural scenes. Together, they highlight how Hampton Roads has quietly become a serious stop on the Virginia wine map.

Whether you’re planning a weekend getaway or adding a tasting to your beach vacation, the Hampton Roads Wine Region offers something for every palate. Sip award-winning wines on a riverside terrace, sample fruit wines and meads in the countryside, or explore an urban tasting room before dinner downtown. Use this page to discover Hampton Roads wineries, plan your route, and enjoy coastal Virginia—one glass at a time.
