Northern Virginia Wine Region

Just beyond the hustle of Washington, D.C., the Northern Virginia Wine Region unfolds into a landscape of vine-covered hills, winding back roads, and historic villages. Centered around Loudoun and Fauquier counties and anchored by the Middleburg Virginia AVA, this area has become one of the Commonwealth’s leading wine destinations, blending equestrian country charm with a polished, contemporary tasting-room experience. Visitors can leave the Beltway behind and, within an hour, find themselves surrounded by mountain views and vineyard vistas.

Northern Virginia’s terroir is shaped by rolling elevations, well-drained granite and sandstone-based soils, and a growing season moderated by the nearby Blue Ridge and Bull Run Mountains. These conditions support a diverse mix of grapes, from vibrant whites like Viognier, Chardonnay, and Petit Manseng to structured reds featuring Cabernet Franc, Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Bordeaux-style blends. Many wineries lean into small-lot, estate-driven winemaking, showcasing how carefully farmed fruit and thoughtful cellar work can express this unique corner of Virginia.

Beyond the wine, the region offers rich layers of history and hospitality—farm wineries with family-friendly lawns, chic hilltop estates, and intimate boutique producers tucked along country lanes. Whether you are planning a relaxed weekend escape, a focused tasting itinerary, or your first exploration of Virginia wine, Northern Virginia provides an accessible gateway to the state’s award-winning wines and dynamic wine culture.

Muse Vineyards Virginia

Where Virginia Wine Meets Artistry

Muse Vineyards, founded in 2005, in the historic and scenic Shenandoah Valley produces estate wines with all grapes grown on site from the highest quality French certified clones. We are producing a bordeaux-style blend of cabernet sauvignon, cabernet franc, merlot, malbec and petit verdot as well as single varietals. We also have chardonnay and red and white Rhone style wines such as viognier, marsanne, roussanne, grenache and syrah. In 2015, we won the Governor's Award for our 2009 Clio. The vineyard site has been continuously farmed since 1792 and the historic house dates from the same year.

Pearmund Cellars

Old Vine Virginia, Plant in 1976

Pearmund Cellars is located in the beautiful foothills of eastern Fauquier County, VA, conveniently close to Northern Virginia and Washington, DC. Our 7500-square-foot geothermal winery and 25-acre vineyard produces Chardonnay, Viognier, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Petit Verdot, Ameritage, and other Award-winning Virginia wines.

Established in 1976, the vineyard originally hosted nine different grape varieties. Today we grow one single varietal, Chardonnay, on the property. We have 15 acres and 21,000 vines of Chardonnay, with mulitple cultivars or clones of Chardonnay to help increase the complexity of wine. Not to be missed is the Italian-tiled barrel room; it boasts Spanish antique-gold light fixtures and a unique barrel stacking system.
