It’s hard to drive past the entrance to The Dog & Oyster Vineyard, without knowing immediately it’s a vineyard. After meandering through the charming town of Irvington, and just when you reach the point that you think you’re heading back into the country, you see them. Really, it would be impossible not to see them. In one of the flattest areas in the state stands two 40-foot tall corkscrews silently welcoming you to enter.

The winery is nestled at the foothills of the Blue Ridge, the heart of Virginia Wine Country. Thatch (First Colony) boasts breathtaking sunsets, charming Old World gardens, meticulously manicured vineyards and newly renovated facilities. Greetings fellow wine and dog lovers! My co-founder, Jeremy and I recently took a road trip to Charlottesville, VA with our dachshunds Bentley and Greta.
