Gray Ghost Vineyards today announced a remarkable run of national accolades for its 2024 Adieu Late Harvest Vidal Blanc. The small-production dessert wine earned Best of Class honors and top medals at prestigious 2025 competitions on both coasts. The results highlight Virginia’s strength with aromatic, richly textured dessert styles that shine at the holiday table.

Headline Results for 2025

  • Best of Class and Double Gold, 96 points at the International Women’s Wine Competition, Sonoma County, California.
  • Best of Class, Dessert Wine and Platinum at the Finger Lakes International Wine & Spirits Competition.
  • Best of Class and Gold at the Atlantic Seaboard Wine Competition.
  • Gold at the Mid-Atlantic Southeastern Wine Competition in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. The official results list the entry as “Aiden,” which refers to Adieu.
  • Gold, 91 points at the Harvest Terroir Challenge in Sonoma County, California.

About the Wine

Adieu is produced only in exceptional years from Vidal Blanc harvested late for concentrated flavor and natural sweetness. The 2024 vintage offers layers of ripe peach, honey and apricot with a silken texture and a bright, cleansed finish. Vidal Blanc is a French-American hybrid known in Virginia for thick skins and loose clusters, traits that help it thrive in humid seasons and make it a classic candidate for sumptuous late-harvest wines.

Why These Medals Matter

The International Women’s Wine Competition and the Finger Lakes International Wine & Spirits Competition are long-standing national stages judged by seasoned professionals. Best of Class designations indicate a wine led its category. At Finger Lakes, Platinum is awarded during the Best in Class evaluation to entries of extraordinary distinction. Winning across such diverse panels, regions and formats affirms Adieu’s quality and consistency.

Perfect for Gifting and Holiday Tables

Adieu is tailor-made for the season. Serve lightly chilled with cheesecake, apple tart or a plate of blue and triple-cream cheeses. It is also delightful on its own to close a festive meal. For a simple pairing at home, try Adieu with baked pears and a drizzle of honey. The wine’s sweetness is balanced by lively acidity, so desserts feel lifted rather than heavy.

Availability

The 2024 Adieu is available while supplies last at Gray Ghost Vineyards’ tasting room in Amissville, Virginia, and directly from the winery. Given the wine’s limited production and award momentum, early purchases are encouraged for holiday entertaining and gifting.

About Gray Ghost Vineyards

Family owned and operated since the 1980s, Gray Ghost Vineyards has become one of Virginia’s most awarded producers. The winery’s portfolio is recognized for balance, polish and a steady stream of medals in national competitions. Adieu has long been a signature, released only when vintage conditions allow the concentration and purity the style demands.
