The Story of Crimson Lane Vineyards: A Virginia Gem in Linden

A Vineyard Rooted in Passion and Perseverance

Crimson Lane Vineyards, located in the picturesque landscape of Linden, Virginia, is more than just a winery—it's the realization of a deeply personal dream, a testament to family tradition, and a place where passion meets purpose. This vineyard, which has grown to become a beloved destination for wine enthusiasts, has its roots in the dreams of one man and the enduring legacy of a family's winemaking tradition.

The Dreamer: Tom Herrity's Vision

The story of Crimson Lane Vineyards begins with its owner, Tom Herrity, and his long-held dream to own a vineyard, craft exceptional wines, and create memorable experiences for others. Unlike many who find their calling in wine through a singular transformative moment, Tom's inspiration came from a growing fascination with the wine community itself. He believed in the magic of producing a high-quality, tangible product from an exceptional place—one that could be shared and enjoyed by others.

Tom's journey into winemaking wasn't born out of an epiphany over a glass of wine, but rather from a deep-seated belief in the power of creating something extraordinary from the land. This belief fueled his desire to find the perfect piece of land where he could bring his vision to life.

A Serendipitous Meeting: The Partnership Begins

Every great story has a pivotal moment of chance, and for Tom, it was meeting Deanna Fioresi in the early 1990s while working in Alexandria, Virginia. United by their shared love for epicurean adventures and a strong devotion to family, Tom and Deanna soon married and settled in Arlington, Virginia, where they raised four children.

Deanna brought to the partnership a rich heritage steeped in winemaking. Her family, Italian immigrants with a long history of making wine, had passed down their traditions through generations. This connection to a family of winemakers was serendipitous, as it added the final piece to Tom’s vision.

A Family Tradition: The Fioresi Legacy

Deanna’s brother, Dominick Fioresi, played a crucial role in bringing Tom's dream to fruition. Raised in the small agricultural town of Vineland, New Jersey, Dominick and Deanna grew up in a lively Italian family where the art of living off the land and working with their hands was a way of life. Their grandfather, a stern but skilled winemaker, often spent his days in the basement, crafting wines from the barrels he stored there—a tradition that deeply influenced Dominick.

At just fourteen, Dominick began experimenting with winemaking, purchasing his own grapes and equipment. His passion for the craft was evident from a young age, earning him the nickname "Little Professor" from his uncles. They recognized his innate talent and potential, which only grew over time. Dominick’s wines became a regular feature at family gatherings, where they were celebrated for their quality and the love that went into making them.

This family tradition, combined with Dominick's growing expertise, laid the foundation for what would become Crimson Lane Vineyards. Dominick's meticulous attention to detail, sincerity, and earnest approach to winemaking resonated deeply with

With this shared mission in mind, Tom, Deanna, and Dominick embarked on a journey that would take them across the Virginia countryside in search of the perfect location to plant their vineyard roots. Their search was defined by a relentless pursuit of excellence—they needed a site with ideal soil, slope, and sunlight to realize their vision of producing exceptional wines.

The Perfect Location: Discovering Crimson Lane

After a decade of searching, in 2011, Tom and Deanna found themselves driving down a dusty gravel road called Crimson Lane. As they explored the land, they knew immediately that they had found something extraordinary. The site had everything they had been searching for: significant slope, ideal elevation, south-facing vineyards, and soil perfectly suited for growing wine grapes.

Tom, determined not to let this special opportunity slip away, spent years negotiating to secure the rights to the land. It was a challenging process, but Tom’s unwavering determination paid off. In 2014, after years of patience and persistence, Tom successfully acquired the property that would become Crimson Lane Vineyards. This land was not just a place to grow grapes—it was the culmination of a dream and the beginning of a new chapter for their family.

A Legacy of Craftsmanship: The Winemaking Process

From the very beginning, the Herrity and Fioresi families approached the vineyard with meticulous care and purposeful precision. They were determined to honor the rich history of Virginia winemaking while also pushing the boundaries to create something uniquely their own.

Dominick Fioresi, now the lead winemaker at Crimson Lane, draws upon his lifelong experience and family traditions to guide the winemaking process. He combines his deep knowledge of the craft with an innovative spirit, always striving to improve the quality of the wines while respecting the character of the land. Dominick’s wines are a reflection of his commitment to excellence and his belief that winemaking is not just a profession, but a deeply personal art form.

Community and Collaboration: A Vineyard Built on Relationships

The success of Crimson Lane Vineyards is not solely the result of the Herrity and Fioresi families’ hard work. It is also a product of the strong relationships they have built within the Virginia wine community. From the very beginning, Tom, Deanna, and Dominick have sought out the advice and expertise of seasoned vintners in the region. They have approached this endeavor with humility, recognizing that the wisdom of others is invaluable in their pursuit of excellence.

This collaborative spirit extends to the way they welcome visitors to the vineyard. Crimson Lane Vineyards is designed to be a gathering place where everyone—from wine connoisseurs to casual drinkers—can come together to enjoy the fruits of their labor. The tasting room is a warm, inviting space where guests are treated like family, and where they can learn about the winemaking process, sample the wines, and make lasting memories.

Looking Ahead: The Future of Crimson Lane Vineyards

As Crimson Lane Vineyards continues to grow and evolve, the Herrity and Fioresi families remain committed to their original mission. Every decision—whether it’s in the vineyard, the winery, or the tasting room—is made with a clear purpose: to create outstanding wines that reflect the unique character of the land and to provide an experience that brings people together.

The vineyard’s future is bright. Plans are in place to expand the estate vineyards, introduce new varietals, and enhance the visitor experience with events and educational programs. Sustainability remains at the forefront of their efforts, as they continue to implement environmentally responsible practices that protect and preserve the land for future generations.

Conclusion

Crimson Lane Vineyards is more than just a winery—it is a testament to the power of dreams, the strength of family, and the importance of perseverance. What began as a dream for Tom Herrity has grown into a thriving vineyard that produces some of the finest wines in Virginia.

But beyond the wine, Crimson Lane is a place where people can come together, share stories, and create memories. It’s a place where tradition meets innovation, and where every bottle of wine tells a story of passion, hard work, and a love for the land.

Whether you’re visiting for a tasting, attending an event, or simply enjoying a glass of wine on the terrace, Crimson Lane Vineyards offers an experience that is as rich and rewarding as the journey that brought it to life. Here, in the rolling hills of Linden, Virginia, the dream of making great wine and creating memorable experiences has become a beautiful reality.
